atmilliways asked: I just found a small spider hanging out in a top corner of my betta's tank. I got rid of it, but I'm kind of worried that another one will turn up and he'll try to eat it. Would that be bad for him? I don't know what kind of spider it was, but not counting the legs it was probably about the size of a food pellet.

ysabelmaryani asked: I'm taking care of my neighbor's betta for a week now. Since almost 3 weeks she has been telling me that Guppy doesn't swim at all (it does when you tap the bowl), he only eats a pellet by day (or maybe he will eat only one in two days) and also I have put him right next to my own betta (Pepin) and he doesn't do anything. What should I do?
Anonymous asked: Im really worried my betta is like floating at the top of his tank and its like he cant swim down and if he does he just float diagonally until hes at the top crooked what do i do??
Anonymous asked: Are aquarium lights bad for bettas? I've read in some places that they stress them out.

Welcome to all new followers in the last couple weeks! I thought I would take a minute to outline submission guidelines for everyone again. :)
First off, submissions are always open. I welcome both photos and video footage. I would prefer that it be your own betta, but if not please provide a source so I can credit it!
We do not post photos of bettas in small bowls or inappropriate containers...

coshledak asked: I just want to stress to people to put lids over their betta tanks, or make sure the water level is low. It doesn't matter if you don't think your betta will jump. For that matter, never put your betta near a sink. This morning, my betta, Trublion, had jumped himself into the garbage disposal. While I did manage to get him out, the trauma was too much and he died a half-an-hour later. I...

lilkittay asked: For the floaty crowntail anon: I would stop forcing food on him for a while. If he is expelling stuff that is a good sign it might mean that he is fighting off the infection. Don't give the bacteria/parasites something to eat by feeding him. Try food again in a few days. As for those jungle tabs, I've never had much luck with em. But a little aquarium salt sometimes works miracles. Make...

Anonymous asked: This is the same person with the new crowntail betta that won't eat and sits at the surface of the water. I tried soaking the pellets in garlic, but he still won't eat. It's like he doesn't even realize that there's food in the tank. Also, when I tried playing with the food to get him to eat it, he swam away towards the bottom, but them seemed to just float back to the...

lilkittay asked: For the anonymous with the food striking crowntail: I wouldn't worry overly much about the hunger strike until 5+ days have passed. Try different foods, I have had bettas that wouldn't eat anything but crushed up sinking shrimp pellets at first. (They don't all like those so-called wonderful pellets the stores push on everyone.) Sometimes its better not to push food on them during...
stevenrichards3-deactivated2011 asked: I have a 2 gallon tank and a crowntail betta named Rafiki.
If I'm looking to get him a friend, what type of fish should I get? Several websites contradict each other, and the people at my local pet store have no idea what they're talking about.
Some say I can have a female betta, while others say I can't.
I just don't know who to...

Anonymous asked: I got a new crown tail betta fish a week ago. He is in a one gallon tank with a fake plant and light. The first two days that I had him he stayed very still towards the bottom of the tank. However, now he stays at the surface of the water, swimming occasionally. Also, he won't eat the pellet food the I give to him and one of his gills sticks out all the time. What's wrong?

lilkittay asked: I have been seeing other blogs make comments about their not recieving every message that is sent to their ask box. It might be that the reason people are feeling you are not answering their inquiries is because you arent getting them. And I love how people need to bitch as "anon" what cowards arent they? dont let them bring you down
leannetheactress asked: Where in the world are you? Do you know any fish shops in London that sell good quality betas? :) Thanks!
Anonymous asked: ever since fuckyeahbettas was given to new help, it's sucked. idk who is in charge of updating or what, but i've submitted questions that have been ignored, and there are hardly any updates - not to mention the snide/trite remarks to commentary and questions from others. my roomie and i love FYB because of the kind tone to questions others in the hobby might not know.

Anonymous asked: Re: the person who asked about fish cruelty, there is a Facebook group specifically aimed at fighting fish cruelty at Walmart. It's called "Fight Walmart Fish Cruelty."
You can even report a store to them and they'll file a report with the home office. They've had some good victories so far!
